Community Recycling Day (Shredding, Electronics Recycling, Household Hazardous Waste Collection)

Perinton’s Community Recycling Day, scheduled for Saturday, May 16, 2026, from 7:45 AM to Noon, will take place at the Perinton Department of Public Works, 100 Cobb’s Lane, 14450. The event offers free electronics recycling and document shredding for Perinton residents, as well as a household hazardous waste collection in partnership with Monroe County. Appointments are required for the Household Hazardous Waste Collection and are available for booking online.

Free Electronics Recycling

Perinton is partnering with local electronics recycler EWASTE+ to collect and properly process a wide range of electronic devices. Accepted items include:

  • Televisions, computers, monitors, and printers
  • Phones and small household electronics

This service is free of charge to Perinton residents. A full list of acceptable items is available at perinton.gov. No appointment is required.

On-Site Document Shredding

Certified document destruction company Shred-Text will provide secure, on-site shredding. Each vehicle may bring up to 4–5 boxes of paper. Staples and paperclips do not need to be removed. No appointment is required.

Household Hazardous Waste Collection (By Appointment Only)

Appointments for household hazardous waste disposal are now available. To schedule an appointment, visit www.monroecounty.gov/ecopark or call Perinton Public Works at (585) 223-5115.

Those who have made a Household Hazardous Waste Collection appointment can dispose of up to 30 gallons of liquid and 75 pounds of solid household hazardous waste. This can include latex paint cans that contain more than 1/3 of a gallon of leftover paint. Other frequently disposed-of items include oil-based wood stains and preservatives, automotive fluids (antifreeze; brake, power steering, and transmission fluids), pesticides and fertilizers, flammable products (gasoline, kerosene, thinners, strippers, solvents, glues, etc.), household cleaners (soaps, waxes, drain cleaners, etc.), driveway sealer, pool and photo chemicals, rechargeable (Ni-Cad) and button batteries, mercury (thermometers, thermostats), syringes/sharps (safely packaged in a puncture-proof container, i.e., 2-liter soda bottle).

Certain items that should NOT be brought to the event, such ascurbside recycling, used motor oil & vehicle batteries (contact service station or retailer); pharmaceutical waste, propane tanks; cans of dried paint (if dried, remove lid and place in trash); empty containers (trash or recycle); everyday alkaline batteries (trash); glazing/spackle & joint compounds (trash).
