Town Supervisor Jenn Townsend Announces New Sidewalk Extension and Replacement Project Along Turk Hill Road

April 23, 2026

Survey work begins this month as Town, County, and Village partner to improve pedestrian safety and connectivity

Town Supervisor Jenn Townsend today announced that the Town of Perinton, in partnership with Monroe County and the Village of Fairport, is advancing a new sidewalk extension and replacement project along Turk Hill Road. The project will improve pedestrian safety and connectivity between Summit Street and the existing sidewalk near the Perinton Community Center.

The project includes approximately 4,600 linear feet of sidewalk improvements, including both new construction and replacement of existing segments.

“This sidewalk project is an important step in improving pedestrian safety and connectivity along Turk Hill Road,” said Town Supervisor Jenn Townsend. “It addresses a long-standing gap in our sidewalk network, strengthening connections between the Perinton Community Center, nearby neighborhoods, parks, and local businesses, while also supporting access to the broader trail network. By partnering with Monroe County, we are able to move this important piece forward for the benefit of our community.”

The project also includes coordination with the Village of Fairport, creating a more seamless connection between Village sidewalks and the Town’s network.

Village Mayor Julie Domaratz said,“Walkability has always been part of what makes the Village of Fairport so special. We take pride in being a community where people can walk to the places that matter in their daily lives, and this project is an exciting step in creating a safer, continuous connection between the Village and key Town destinations. I’m thankful to our partners in the Town of Perinton and Monroe County for helping make this investment in safety, accessibility, and the walkable, connected community we value possible.”

The project is supported by more than $300,000 in funding from Monroe County through its sidewalk program, which will help fund a portion of the new sidewalk construction. The Town of Perinton will fund the remaining balance of both new and replacement sidewalk, for a total estimated project cost of approximately $1.3 million.

“Investing in infrastructure like sidewalks does more than enhance quality of life—it is fundamental to ensuring that pedestrians can move safely and efficiently through our towns and villages,” said Monroe County Executive Adam Bello. “I’m grateful to Supervisor Townsend for her partnership in advancing projects that strengthen public safety and improve connectivity for residents and visitors in Perinton.”

Monroe County Legislator John Baynes said, “The Turk Hill Road Sidewalk Project – which connects the Village of Fairport to the Recreation Center/Town Hall and links pedestrian pathways throughout Perinton – was my inspiration for advocacy for the countywide sidewalk fund for county roads. I am thrilled to see the project underway.”

Monroe County Legislator Lystra Bartholomew McCoy said, “I’m excited to work in an intergovernmental capacity to advance a long-overdue, common-sense initiative: building sidewalks along Turk Hill. This project will connect neighborhoods to the recreation center and create safe, reliable pedestrian access for the community. I look forward to building on this momentum and continuing to expand sidewalk access along more of Turk Hill as we celebrate this important step forward.”

As part of the early project phase, field survey work will begin the week of April 27, 2026, and is expected to take approximately two weeks to complete. Residents along the corridor may see survey crews in the area collecting data to inform the design and engineering of the proposed sidewalk.

Once preliminary design concepts are available, the Town will invite residents to participate in a public meeting to review the proposal and provide feedback.

Turk Hill Road serves as a key connection point within the community, linking neighborhoods, schools, the Perinton Community Center, Center Park and the Perinton Amphitheater, as well as and nearby Village and commercial destinations. The addition and improvement of sidewalk infrastructure will enhance walkability and provide safer options for residents traveling within the area.

This project supports the Town’s ongoing efforts to expand pedestrian infrastructure, consistent with the goals of the Town’s Comprehensive Plan and Pedestrian and Bicycle Plan to improve connectivity and fill gaps in the existing sidewalk network.

Engineering and design work will continue throughout 2026, with construction anticipated in 2027.
