Perinton, NY – September 14, 2026 – The Town of Perinton has been awarded a grant of $58,680 through the Local Government Records Management Improvement Fund administered by the New York State Archives, with support from the office of Assemblymember Jen Lunsford.
The Local Government Records Management Improvement Fund was established by state law in 1989 to provide funds to help local governments establish records management programs or develop new program components.
The funds they receive will be used to complete an Inactive Records project to develop and improve critical records management. The town will conduct a comprehensive inventory of files that are currently unidentified. The identification of this inventory, with correlating data capture, will help the Town index currently unidentified records while connecting them to current electronic files.
“Modern and efficient record-keeping is essential to ensuring that Perinton can effectively serve its residents, now and into the future” said Assemblymember Jen Lunsford. “The process of reconciling unidentified files with modern electronic records is a necessary but costly endeavor, and I am proud to support the Town of Perinton by securing this funding, without which this project may never be completed.”
The funding will help modernize record-keeping operations within the Town Clerk’s Office, supporting efforts to improve the management, preservation, and accessibility of important municipal records.
“This funding is a great example of how State and local partnerships can help us make meaningful improvements to the way we serve our community,” said Perinton Town Supervisor Jenn Townsend. “Modernizing our records management will make Town operations more efficient while helping preserve important information for the future. We’re grateful to Assemblymember Lunsford for her support and for helping bring this investment to Perinton.”
“I want to thank Assemblymember Lunsford for her partnership as we work to modernize Perinton,” said Perinton Town Clerk Andrew Gilchrist. “Town-wide modernization is a monumental, costly, and time-consuming undertaking. Like many communities across New York, we are sitting on decades of paper archives that preserve essential local history, but are cumbersome to navigate in a digital era. This LGRMIF grant enables the critical first step of indexing these records, establishing the structured framework required to digitize them properly and responsibly. Paired with the platform modernization initiatives already underway in the Clerk’s office, and drawing on my background in enterprise data strategy and systems architecture, this state support empowers us to build a connected, secure digital foundation across all town departments—without asking our taxpayers to shoulder the cost. We aren’t simply converting paper to screens; we are fundamentally streamlining how information flows, expanding public transparency, and positioning Perinton as a model of efficient, forward-thinking local government.”
